Wranglers Fall to Steelheads 3-1

Boise, ID - The Las Vegas Wranglers (28-10-12, 68 points) were defeated by the Idaho Steelheads (27-18-4, 58 points) 3-1 at the Qwest Arena on Saturday night. Idaho scored three goals in the second period, ending the Wranglers eight-game unbeaten in regulation string (7-0-1). Goalie Kevin Nastiuk suffered his first loss in his last seven starts, stopping 28 Idaho shots. Defenseman Aaron Power scored the only Las Vegas goal, as the team lost in regulation for the first time since January 31st. Las Vegas will now head to Victoria for three-game series at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre on February 21, 23 and 24 at 7:05 pm.

After a scoreless first period, the Steelheads opened up the game by outscoring the Wranglers 3-0 in the second period and outshooting Las Vegas 16-2 in the middle period. The scoring started with a 5-on-3 rebound goal by J.B Bittner just 1:04 into the period. The power-play goal gave the Steelheads a 1-0 lead as Darrell Hay and Lance Galbraith set up the tally. The Steelheads scored again just 4:34 later as Colin Shields scored his 12th goal of the season for the 2-0 Idaho lead. The Steelheads snagged their second power-play goal of the period for the 3-0 lead, as Taggart Desmet scored his eighth goal of the season at 16:19.

In the third period, Las Vegas's Aaron Power scored a power-play goal at 7:08, trimming the Idaho lead to 3-1. Power's seventh of the season prevented goalie Steve Silverthorn from earning his fifth shutout of the season.

Las Vegas will return home on Tuesday, February 27th to host Idaho at 7:05 pm.
