Stockton Thunder News Release
VICTORIA, British Columbia - A three-goal rally helped the Stockton Thunder (21-16-10, 52 points) snap a three-game losing skid, with Victoria finishing the game on Wes Goldie's game-winning overtime goal as the Thunder settled for a 4-3 overtime decision to Victoria before 4,417 at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Saturday.
Both teams combined for a four-goal first period with a 2-2 tie in the balance through one period, beginning with power-play goals by Victoria's Kiel McLeod at 4:25 and Wes Goldie with 5:59 elapsed. Just 2:41 later, the Thunder began its rally with all-star right wing Troy Bodie's 19th goal of the season, taking a centering feed from assistant captain Nathan Martz and ripping a wrist shot from the middle of the slot through the five-hole of Victoria netminder Julien Ellis.
After a killing of a five-minute major power-play and a Victoria two-man advantage, the Thunder rode the momentum to score the tying goal as rookie Stephane Goulet finished a centering feed from the right wing by Liam Reddox, with Goulet positioned at the left side of the crease with 3:49 left in the period.
Thunder goaltender Devan Dubnyk made nine saves in the period, including a save on Mike Stutzel who ripped a one-timer from the right goal post, which led Dubnyk to the pipe in a sprawling fashion to rob Stutzel with the glove.
Bodie's second goal of the game gave the Thunder its first lead of the game at 3-2 with 4:58 left in the second period, when a one-timer by Mike Lalonde produced a rebound for Bodie, who was camped in front of Ellis and buried the rebound for a power-play goal. Dubnyk kept Victoria at-bay with eight saves in the period, as the Thunder outshot Victoria 19-8 in the second.
Jordan Krestanovich tied the game at three apiece with 7:16 gone on a one-timer set up by his brother Derek from behind the net. In overtime, Ryan Wade set up the game winning tally by winning a faceoff at the right circle, feeding Paul Ballantyne at the right point, whose shot was stopped by Dubnyk. Goldie pounced on the loose puck for the tally with just 37 seconds gone.
Bodie led the Thunder scoring attack with a two-goal effort, as Dubnyk helped stop the Thunder losing skid with 29 saves.
The Thunder returns home to Stockton Arena for its next game on Wednesday, February 21, with a 7:00 p.m. faceoff set against the Bakersfield Condors. The game can be heard live on the internet (free-of-charge) and is available for viewing for a $6 "pay-per-view" charge at www.stocktonthunder.com (courtesy of B2 Networks).
