Wranglers clinch playoff spot, sweep Steelheads

Las Vegas Wranglers News Release


Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers posted a 2-0-1 record for the week starting with a 3-2 overtime loss to Victoria at home last Tuesday night. Friday night, Las Vegas defeated Idaho 3-1 at the Orleans Arena. Saturday, the Wranglers edged the Steelheads 2-1 at the Orleans Arena.

The Wranglers will embark on a season-long nine-game road trip this week starting in Fresno on Tuesday, February 28th at 7:00 pm. Las Vegas heads to San Diego for a game on Friday at 7:35 pm and at 7:05 pm on Saturday. Sunday, the Wranglers conclude their week in Fresno with a 7:00 pm face-off at Save Mart Center.

Las Vegas will return home on March 17th to host the Alaska Aces for a three-game series.

Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers were beaten by the Victoria Salmon Kings 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday night in front of 3,865 fans at the Orleans Arena. Salmon Kings' defenseman Steve Lingren scored with 50-seconds remaining in overtime to seal the first Victoria win over Las Vegas. Victoria goaltender B.J. Boxma made 32 saves to pick up his third win of the season. Wranglers forwards Sean O'Connor and Steve Crampton each scored in the overtime loss.

Idaho 1 at Las Vegas 3

Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Idaho Steelheads 3-1 on Friday night in front of 5,828 fans at the Orleans Arena. Wranglers' defensemen Scott Schoneck and Christian Chartier each scored power-play goals to lift Las Vegas to victory. Las Vegas forward Dan Tudin also scored a shorthanded goal for the Wranglers, his sixth shorthanded tally of the season. Goalie Marc Magliarditi made 30 saves, improving to 25-7-5 on the season.

Saturday, February 25th

Idaho 1 at Las Vegas 2

Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Idaho Steelheads 2-1 on Saturday night in front of 7,295 fans at the Orleans Arena. Left wing Shawn Limpright scored the game-winning goal at 13:14 of the third period to propel the Wranglers to victory. Wranglers forward Matt Dzieduszycki scored his 27th goal of the season as Las Vegas improved to 22-2-3 at home this season. Goalie Marc Magliarditi made 35 saves, improving to 26-7-5. With the Wranglers win and a Phoenix loss to Long Beach, the Wranglers clinched a Kelly Cup Playoff berth.

Triumphant Tudin

Las Vegas Wranglers winger Dan Tudin became the first player in a Wranglers uniform to reach 100 career points Friday night with his 23rd goal of the season. Tudin's shorthanded goal moved him into the league lead for shorthanded tallies with his sixth of the season. On Tuesday, February 14th, Tudin became the team's all-time leading scorer when he scored his fifth shorthanded goal of the season, passing Jason McBain's 95 career points. Tudin is also the team's all-time leader for shorthanded goals with six. The 27-year old leads the Wranglers with a +28 and 36 assists this season. The Wranglers left winger ranks ninth in the ECHL with 59 points, one behind team leader Matt Dzieduszycki.

This Week's Opponent-

Fresno Falcons - (30-10-10, 70 Points) - This season, the Wranglers are 4-0-0 against the Falcons this season, outscoring Fresno 20-6. Both teams have already clinched a playoff spot for the 2006 ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs. Left wing Luke Curtin leads Fresno with 45 assists and 62 points in 50 games played. The Falcons lost defenseman Cory Murphy to a season-ending injury on Friday night at Save Mart Center.

San Diego Gulls - (23-23-5, 51 Points) - The Wranglers are 4-0-0 against the Gulls, outscoring San Diego 23-9. Center Steve Hildenbrand leads San Diego with 29 assists and 51 points in 50 games played. Rookie All-Star Jesse Bennefield leads the team with 23 goals in 47 games played. San Diego goalie Tom Lawson has 20 penalty minutes in two games against the Wranglers.
