A Miracle On Ice For Muscular Dystrophy

February 27, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder administered its first-ever game-worn jersey auction following Sunday's February 26 home game against the San Diego Gulls, with fans aiding in raising $31,930 for charity.

For the first time in team history, the Thunder donned a special third jersey for Saturday's February 25 home game against the Bakersfield Condors and Sunday's game, paying tribute to the 1980 United States Olympic hockey team by wearing exact replicas of Team U.S.A.'s white jersey worn in the historic semifinal round upset of the Soviet Union.

The jerseys were submitted to a live auction right off the players' backs following Sunday's game, with proceeds benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association and "Friends For Steven" foundation.

The top individual bid went to defenseman Jason Metcalfe's #23 jersey, sold for $6,750. Goaltender Jake Moreland's #1 jersey came in a close second for individual bids, garnering a winning bid of $6,250.

Thunder season tickets, individual tickets, and mini packages are on-sale now. Individual tickets can be purchased in person at Stockton Arena's Ticket Office, online at www.stocktontickets.com, or by phone at (209) 373-1700. For more information about tickets, merchandise, or other inquiries contact the Stockton Thunder offices at (209) 373-1500 or visit www.stocktonthunder.com.
