Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers lost two games on the road last week. One bright spot for the Checkers was the play of rookie center Bruce Graham who scored three goals. The Checkers will wrap up a three game road trip on Saturday at Florida in their only game of the week. The Checkers will return home on Friday, March 10th.

Friday, February 24, 2006 @ Greenville, L, 2-5 The Greenville Grrrowl jumped on the Checkers with four first-period goals and skated away with 5-2 victory Friday night at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville. The Grrrowl got two goals from Brock Rudunske, and single goals from Brad Bonello, Tim Sestito, and John Snowden. Greenville goalie Cam Ellsworth turned aside 20 Charlotte shots to earn his 11th win of the season. Checkers goalie Jeff Glass deserved a better fate, taking the loss with 24 saves. A deflection, a power-play goal and little support from his teammates blurred what really was an excellent performance by the rookie goalie. Charlotte got its two goals from Mike Bayrack and Bruce Graham.

Sunday, February 26, 2006 @ South Carolina, L, 2-3 The Charlotte Checkers had beaten the South Carolina Stingrays eight consecutive times this season. Sunday afternoon the Stingrays finally broke the string and notched their first win over Charlotte in 2005-06 with a 3-2 victory at the North Charleston Coliseum. Matt Reid's goal with just three minutes to go in the game proved to be the game winner for South Carolina, as the Stingrays are now 1-8 versus the Checkers in the 11-game season series. The win allowed South Carolina to capture five of a possible six points in their three games in three days weekend. Stingray's goalie Davis Parley made 26 saves in earning the win.
