Durham Bulls News Release
Worcester, MA - A five-run sixth inning catapulted Worcester past Durham 12-5 on Friday night at Polar Park.
After scoring twice in the fifth to grab a 3-2 lead, the Bulls' bullpen faltered as Durham (6-12) dropped its third straight game to the WooSox (8-9). Colby White (L, 0-2) hit the first two batters of the sixth, then permitted four hits leading to five runs as Worcester jumped ahead 7-3.
Ronny Simon connected for a solo homer in the seventh to make it 7-4 before the WooSox tacked on three against reliever Michael Gomez. Enmanuel Mejia walked three in the eighth and surrendered a two-run homer to make it 12-4.
Nathan Wiles started for the Bulls, grinding through a career-high 95 pitches, fanning Mark Contreras with the bases loaded on his final pitch of the evening. Wiles yielded two runs on six this in his no-decision.
Ruben Cardenas had two hits including his fourth home run of the year, a solo shot in the third off of Worcester starter Grant Gambrell.
The WooSox had 13 hits in the game and drew nine walks, applying constant pressure against the Bulls across the game.
Josh Lowe, in his first game of his major league rehab assignment for Tampa Bay, played the entire game, going 0-3 at the plate with a walk while patrolling centerfield.
