WORCESTER, M.A. - The Worcester Red Sox (48-45) erased a six-run deficit to beat the Syracuse Mets (42-51) on Sunday afternoon, a 10-8 comeback victory in the series finale at Polar Park.

Down 8-7 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, the WooSox began the frame with back-to-back singles. With runners on first and third, Ronaldo Hernandez delivered a game-tying sac-fly to left, plating Connor Wong. After a walk put runners on first and second, Johan Mieses hit a ground ball to the left side-it went off the glove of the third baseman and allowed Triston Casas to score from second with the go-ahead run. One batter later, Nick Sogard came through with a sac-fly to extend the Worcester lead to two.

Syracuse put two on in the top of the ninth, but Frank German got a 4-6-3 double play to end the ballgame, sealing his second save of the season.

Eight batters into the game, the Mets had a 4-0 lead. WooSox starter Chris Murphy allowed a pair of two run singles in the top of the first, one from Nick Plummer and one from Deven Marrero. An inning later, Syracuse went up 6-0 on a Plummer RBI groundout and a solo homer from Mark Vientos.

Worcester began its comeback bid in the bottom of the second. Cameron Cannon, starting in his Triple-A debut, smacked an RBI single to right to get the home team on the board. The 2019 Red Sox second round pick would go 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in his first game with the WooSox.

Two innings later, Grant Williams gave Worcester its second run with a sac-fly to center, cutting the deficit to 6-2.

In the fifth, Hernandez had his first big swing of the day, a 109 mile-per-hour two-run double off the wall in center. A few batters later, Nick Sogard lifted a ball to center for a sac-fly, scoring Hernandez to make it a one run game.

Matt Barnes took the mound in the sixth for the second time in the last three days, part of a rehab assignment. The right-hander went one inning, allowing two runs and two singles (including a two-run single to Kramer Robertson), walking one with zero strikeouts.

Trailing 8-5 in the seventh, the WooSox again battled back. Hernandez led off with another double, then scored on a Mieses RBI single to right center. Three batters later, Williams came through with an RBI single to left to get it to an 8-7 ballgame.

Hernandez finished the day 2-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and a walk. In his last 40 games, the 24-year-old has 54 hits, 22 of which are for extra bases. He would deliver the game-tying sac-fly, part of the three run eighth.

Chase Shugart earned his first Triple-A win after tossing two perfect innings, posting 1-2-3 frames in the seventh and eighth with two strikeouts.

Worcester grabbed its third victory of the season when trailing after six innings.

The WooSox are off Monday and begin a six-game road series on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. against the Buffalo Bisons, affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Radio coverage is live at 6:45 p.m. on 100 FM The Pike, 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network.
