Maton claims IronRail for Lehigh Valley

(Allentown, PA) - Nick Maton broke a 2-2 tie for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (51-42) in the bottom of the eighth inning as he hit a go-ahead RBI single against Jimmy Cordero (0-1). Lehigh Valley would then hold on to defeat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (45-48) 3-2.

Miguel Andujar put Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. He hit a two-run double against James Dykstra that scored Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza to give the RailRiders a 2-0 lead. Will Toffey tied the game at 2-2 against Jhony Brito in the bottom of the second inning with one out as he hit a two-run home run that scored Jorge Bonifacio. The home run for Toffey was his fifth of the season.

Ofreidy Gomez pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Dykstra. Jonathan Hennigan and James Marvel each pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Brito allowed two runs in six innings pitched for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Mark Appel (6-0) earned the win for Lehigh Valley as he pitched two scoreless innings. He gave up two hits, walked two batters, and recorded three strikeouts. Tyler Cyr earned his second save of the season by pitching a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The IronPigs are off on Monday and then begin a six-game series in Durham against the Bulls beginning on Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
