Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds walked off the finale of the three-game series with the Gwinnett Stripers at AutoZone Park on Sunday afternoon, taking the win by the final score of 6-5.
Memphis used the longball to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon. With second baseman Evan Mendoza on first in the bottom of the ninth inning, pinch hitter Moises Gomez drilled his 27th home run of the season to give the Redbirds the walk-off win.
In total, Memphis hit three home runs on the day. With the team down by a run in the eighth, shortstop Paul DeJong led off the frame with his 15th home run of the year to even the score at four. Third baseman Delvin Perez hit his third Triple-A homer of the year in the third inning. Perez and DeJong each tallied two-hit efforts.
Dakota Hudson made his first MLB Rehab Start of the season with Memphis, tossing 79 pitches in 5.0 innings of one-run baseball. The right-handed pitcher struck out six batters, walked three and allowed five hits. Reliever Zach McAllister (4-1) earned the win in relief.
The Memphis Redbirds (51-42) return to AutoZone Park on Tuesday night against the Norfolk Tides, Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles for a scheduled 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch.
