NEWS & NOTES

FIRST THINGS FIRST - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders return to the diamond after the All-Star break to make their first trip to Coca-Cola Park and face the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. This is the first three-game series of the season for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and their first trip to this ballpark this season. These two won't play a six-game series at Coca-Cola Park until the RailRiders' final road trip of the year in late September.

RUB-A-DUB - This is the first rubber game the RailRiders play in this season, due to the nature of this being their first scheduled oddly-numbered series of the season with three scheduled games. SWB was 0-3 in rubber games in 2021.

ALL BY MYSELF - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre entered yesterday in sole possession of seventh place and remains there entering today despite a loss on Saturday. This is the first time they have been alone in a position higher than eighth place since they were in seventh on April 30.

ALL I WANTED WAS A PEPSI - This is the RailRiders first trip to Coca-Cola Park this season. In 2021, the RailRiders went 12-6 in Allentown while going 21-15 overall in the season against LHV. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has not faired well against the IronPigs this season at PNC Field, losing nine-of-twelve games against them while being outscored 74-42. They are now 1-1 at this park entering Sunday.

I WANNA RUNAWAY - The RailRiders stole seven bases yesterday, setting a season-high. It bested six stolen bags, set on April 27 also against Lehigh Valley at PNC Field.

BEN'S BIZ - Ben Rortvedt is continuing his rehab assignment with the RailRiders after playing four games with Hudson Valley. The catcher is coming back from a right oblique strain. He went 1-for-12 with the Renegades with three walks and six strikeouts. He has gone 0-6 with three walks in two games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Prior to this season, Rortvedt had spent his entire career in the Minnesota Twins organization. He was traded to the Yankees from the Twins on March 13 of this year in a deal that included Gary Sanchez, Gio Urshela, Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY - Since July 7, Rob Brantly has gone 9-for-15 with a double. He has driven in three runs in a four-game span. His three-hit performance last Friday (July 15) was his first game in six days (July 9). He came in defensively Friday but did not bat.

STREAKY -Greg Weissert has not been charged with a run in fifteen straight appearances, the longest stretch for any RailRiders pitcher this season. This scoreless streak has lasted 14.2 innings... Jimmy Cordero is on a five-game scoreless streak... Oswald Peraza has a five-game hit streak... Josh Breaux has an eight-game on-base streak, every Triple-A game he has had a plate appearance in... Jake Bauers has a six-game on-base streak...

FINISHED STRONG - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre finished the proverbial first-half just two games under .500 (44-46). The team was a season-worst seventeen games under the .500 mark at 19-36 on June 8, putting them 15.5 games back of first while holding last place in the IL East. Since June 9, the RailRiders have gone 26-11.

MOVE AND GROOVE - The Yankees have made a series of moves since the All-Star break that have affected the RailRiders. Reliever Vinny Nittoli was released on July 18.
