
Neidert Tosses Season-High Seven Innings in 8-3 Win over Charlotte

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Peyton Burdick and Lorenzo Quintana homered while Nick Neidert set a season-high with seven innings pitched and eight strikeouts as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp took the rubber game against the Charlotte Knights 8-3 Sunday night from 121 Financial Ballpark.
The Jumbo Shrimp (50-43) got on the board first in the bottom of the third against Charlotte (34-59) starter Mike Wright (L, 0-1). With one out, Erik González singled and scored on a two-run home run from Burdick (12) to put Jacksonville ahead 2-0. Charles Leblanc walked in the ensuing at-bat and went to second on an infield single from Jerar Encarnacion. Two batters later, Leblanc stole third and scored on an infield single from Luis Aviles Jr. to push the lead to 3-0.
The bats continued to go to work for Jacksonville in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Leblanc doubled and Encarnacion walked. In his second start since being activated off the injured list, Quintana smacked a two-run triple, pushing the Jumbo Shrimp lead to 5-0. Aviles Jr. followed with an RBI groundout in the next at-bat to increase the lead to 6-0.
Charlotte broke through in the seventh inning. Carlos Pérez led off with a single and two batters later, Yolbert Sánchez (2) launched a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 6-2.
The Jumbo Shrimp responded with two in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Encarnacion knocked a single and Quintana (13) walloped a two-run home run to build the lead back up to six, 8-3.
The Knights struck back in the top of the ninth with a home run from Adam Haseley (11) to start the frame but Jake Fishman was able to finish off Charlotte and secure the 8-3 win.
Jacksonville got a great effort from their pitching staff. Neidert (W, 3-0) tossed a season-high seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Fishman wrapped up the game with one run on one hit and four strikeouts in two innings of work.
Jacksonville hits the road for a six-game series with the Gwinnett Stripers that starts on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.
