INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Mark Contreras provided the offense for the St. Paul Saints on Sunday afternoon at Victory Field. Unfortunately, his two home runs weren't enough in a 5-3 loss to the Indianapolis Indians.

The Indians got on the board first in the second as Bligh Madris led off the inning with a double to right. Travis Swaggerty followed with an RBI triple to left-center making it 1-0. With two outs, Taylor Davis lined a single into center scoring Swaggerty increasing the lead to 2-0.

Contreras knotted the game at two in the fourth. After Jermaine Palacios led off the inning with a walk, Contreras blasted a line drive, two-run homer to right, his ninth of the season.

In the bottom of the inning the Indians answered as Swaggerty led off the inning with a walk. He stole second and was balked to third. Mason Martin put the Indians up 3-2 with a sacrifice fly. With two outs, Davis singled to left-center and that was followed by a two-run homer from Tucupita Marcano, his first, increasing the lead to 5-2.

Contreras got the Saints to within two in the eighth when he hit his second home run of the game, a solo shot to right-center his 10th of the season, making it 5-3. Contreras finished 2-4 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored.

The Saints had an opportunity in the ninth as they put the tying runs on. With two outs and nobody on, David Bañuelos doubled down the left field line. Spencer Steer's infield single to short put runners at the corners. Michael Helman battled, but ultimately flew out to shallow center to end the game.

Reliver Ariel Jurado was magnificent for the Saints retiring all 10 batters he faced going 3.1 perfect innings and striking out three. Jake Petricka threw a perfect eighth inning and struck out two as Saints pitchers retired the final 13 batters they faced.

The Saints are off Monday and return to action on Tuesday at CHS Field against the Iowa Cubs. The Saints send LHP Devin Smeltzer (1-2, 3.86) to the mound and the I-Cubs are TBA. The game can be seen on the Saints Broadcast Network, cable access channels in and around the Twin Cities area, and MiLB.TV and heard on KFAN Plus, 96.7 FM.
