Rochester Red Wings (47-45) vs. Buffalo Bisons (48-44)

Sunday - 1:05 p.m. ET - Sahlen Field - Buffalo, NY

Radio: Fox Sports 1280/iHeartRadio | TV: MiLB.tv

RHP Cory Abbott (0-3, 5.55) vs. RHP Shaun Anderson (2-1, 4.10)

TRYING TO FLIGHT: Rochester drops the mini-series in Buffalo, falling to the Bisons in extras 10-9...after starting the game with three scoreless innings, RHP Sterling Sharp gave up five earned runs in the fourth...OF Andrew Stevenson, OF Donovan Casey and 3B Jake Alu led the Wings offense with three hits a piece...the Wings blew an 8-5 lead after giving up four runs in the seventh inning...despite a rally attempt led by an RBI-single from Casey in the 9th, the Wings fell short in extras...Rochester will send RHP Cory Abbott to the mound as Rochester will look to avoid the mini-sweep in Buffalo.

THAT'S OUR STEVIE: OF Andrew Stevenson went 3-for-6 with a double and two RBI...the former LSU tiger now has a hit in four consecutive games after going 4-for-35 over an eight-game stretch...Stevenson's first-inning double ties him for the International League-lead in that category (Estevan Florial-SWB) with 24 doubles this season...the 28-year-old now has 98 knocks this season, which ranks fourth in the IL...with two more knocks, he will join teammate Joey Meneses as Wings with 100 hits this season...Rochester would be the first team to have two players reach the hundred-hit mark this season.

DON-AMITE: OF Donovan Casey's three-hit performance last night tied the most knocks in a game in his career at the Triple-A level...the National's prospect had a double, two singles and two RBI against the Bisons last night...his other 3-hit performance in Triple-A came on August 31, 2021 (vs WOR)...Casey's RBI double in the 5th marked his first RBI in the month of July (12 games).

THANK ALU: 3B Jake Alu went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a walk in the loss to Buffalo...the Nationals' prospect is now 7-for-24 (.292) since joining the team (7/12), which is the third-best batting average on the club over that span...his three knocks in yesterday's game are his most in a Wings uniform (7 games).

NOLL-YWOOD: 2B Jake Noll hit a two-run triple in the top of the third to give the Wings a 5-0 lead...the veteran's triple ended the team's streak of 15 games without a three-bagger, the longest of the season...Noll's triple was his third of the year and first since June 5 (v BUF)...the righty is batting .323 (20-for-62) in July.

THAT ONE HURT: With last night's extra-inning loss, Rochester drops the mini-series (3 games) to Buffalo...the series loss is the Wings' fourth in their last seven series, going 0-4-3 over that stretch...Rochester falls to 16-11 in one-run games this season...prior to last night's contest the squad was 3-0 in one-run contests versus Buffalo this season...the Wings now move to 5-3 in extra-innings this season, meanwhile Buffalo moves to 7-2 in such affairs.

STREAKING PALACIOS: LF Josh Palacios extended his on-base streak to 26 games with his double in the first inning...the former Auburn Tiger has also extended his season-long hit-streak to 13 games, the longest active hit-streak in the International League...the lefty has the longest on-base streak on the Red Wings squad this season as well as the longest active streak in the IL...the last person to eclipse a 24-game on-base streak in a Wings uniform was former Red Wing Drew Maggi when he reached base safely in 39-straight (6/21-8/9/2019).

COURTESY OF CURTIS: RHP Curtis Taylor went 1.2 innings without allowing an earned run against Buffalo, being one of just two Wings to pitch more than an inning without giving up a run in yesterday's contest...the reliever had a pair of strikeouts against his former squad, marking his third consecutive outing with multiple Ks...the National's prospect has allowed an earned run in just three of his 11 appearances for the club this season...his 1.93 ERA (14 IP/3 ER) is second-best amongst all relievers with at least 10 innings pitched since the righty made his debut on June 17 (Tyler Clippard 1.80 ERA).

RISPY BUSINESS: Prior to last night's game, the Red Wings were batting just .237 (125-for-527) with runners in scoring position in July, which ranks 15th in the International League in the category this month...Rochester was 8-for-18 (.444) with RISP in yesterday's contest...the club's eight hits with RISP are their most in a contest this month.

EVENLY MATCHED: The Rochester Red Wings have had 18 players log 10 or more games played this season and collectively have posted a 1,555 wRC+ for an average of 86.45...comparatively, the Buffalo Bisons have posted 1,715 wRC+ among their 20 players with 10+ games played for an average of 85.75...OF Josh Palacios leads the Wings squad with 127 wRC+ while Buffalo's Spencer Horwitz leads the Bisons' squad with 139 wRC+ score.

wRC+ takes the statistic Runs Created and adjusts that number to account for important external factors -- like ballpark or era. It's adjusted, so a wRC+ of 100 is league average and 150 would be 50 percent above league average.

CORY, NO SCORY: Today, Rochester will send RHP Cory Abbott to the mound in hopes of avoiding the sweep against Buffalo...the veteran has a 1.62 ERA over his last three starts (11.1 IP/2 ER)...Abbott has recorded 13 strikeouts over his last three outings, good for 10.5 K/9...the 26-year-old will look to replicate his last performance versus Buffalo where he had a season-high six strikeouts in 2.2 innings of relief against the Bisons on June 5.
