Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - After last night's game saw a combined 19 runs over 10 innings, today's game saw the Buffalo Bisons shutout the Rochester Red Wings 1-0 from Sahlen Field to complete the three-game sweep.
The Herd used eight total pitchers to shutout the Red Wings for the second game of the series, led by Shaun Anderson who started and went two scoreless frames. Tayler Saucedo, Brandon Eisert, Matt Peacock, Foster Griffin, Mike Ellenbest, and Matt Gage all threw a clean inning, before Trent Thornton closed things out in the ninth.
The lone run of the ballgame came off the bat of Colton Shaver, who hit his first home run as a Bison after joining the team on July 12.
The Bisons did have a chance to add some more runs in the third when three straight singles loaded the bases, but Andrew Stevenson made a terrific diving catch in center to rob Jordan Groshans of what would have at least been a two-run double.
The defence of the Bisons also played a big factor, especially when Stevie Berman threw out Josh Palacios trying to steal third in the sixth. Two batters later, Riley Adams hit a double which would have brought the tying run home had Palacios been successful.
Buffalo pitchers held the Red Wings to just five hits all game, three of which came off the bat of Adams, who played with both the Blue Jays and the Bisons last season before being traded to Washington.
The Herd will enjoy an off-day tomorrow before welcoming in the Worcester Red Sox for a six-game series beginning on Tuesday. Casey Lawrence is scheduled to start in the opener, with first pitch coming at 7:05 p.m. EST.
