
Massey Records Another Multi-Hit Game But Omaha Falls to Iowa

PAPILLION, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (46-46) were shutout for the second consecutive game by the Iowa Cubs (42-50) 7-0. Omaha hadn't been shutout in consecutive games since May of 2017. The I-Cubs lead the series 2-1 with the Storm Chasers looking to come away series split tomorrow.
The Storm Chasers got a one-out double from second baseman Michael Massey followed by a single from center fielder Nate Eaton. Omaha laid down a sacrifice bunt, but the I-Cubs were able to throw out Massey at home and keep the Chasers off the scoreboard.
Iowa started the second with a home run to open the scoring before putting a rally together and capitalizing on an Omaha error to push the lead to 3-0 after the second inning.
First baseman Gabriel Cancel got a single in the bottom of the frame, but the Chasers came away empty to leave the scoreboard still.
Iowa put another rally together to score a run in the third and push the score to 4-0.
Right-hander Jonathan Heasley (Loss, 1-1) tossed 3.1 innings in his first rehab start, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits with three strikeouts.
Iowa pitchers faced the minimum in the fifth, sixth, and seventh before Omaha had a pair of hits in the eighth, getting singles from designated hitter Drew Waters and Massey. The Storm Chasers came away empty to leave the deficit at seven.
The Chasers drew a walk in the bottom of the ninth but were again kept of the scoreboard as Iowa took game three 7-0. In all, Omaha Stranded six runners in the game.
Omaha and Iowa are scheduled to play the final game of the four-game set on Monday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. with coverage beginning at 10:45 a.m. on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.
