
Wood solid in Dragon win

FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Dayton Dragons got solid pitching from Travis Wood and good production out of the middle part of their order to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 7-2 in game one of a doubleheader Monday afternoon. Wood struck out six and allowed two runs on two hits in five innings. BJ Szymanski and Bobby Mosby, the fourth and sixth hitters in the Dayton order, had a pair of hits and Habelito Hernandez, number five in the Dayton lineup, drove in a pair of runs.
Mosby started the scoring when he doubled in a run in the top of the second inning and the Dragons (19-18) led 1-0.
Hernandez knocked in two runs with a two-out single in the top of the third.
Jairo Hernandez got the Rattlers (16-20) on the board with a solo homer in the bottom of the third. Later in the inning, Wisconsin got another run on a throwing error by Dragon catcher Craig Tatum. But, Wood retired the final seven Rattlers he faced.
Dayton got another run in the top of the sixth on a single by Mike DeJesus and three more runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run double by Gerardo Cabrera and an RBI single by Mike Griffin.
Blake Hendley struck out five Rattlers over the final two innings for his seventh save.
