
Cougars Stymied in Beloit

Beloit, Wisc. - The Kane County Cougars lost 6-0 to the Beloit Snappers on Monday night in the series finale, giving the Cougars a 3-4 record on their road swing. The offense managed four hits against Kyle Waldrop, who tossed a complete-game shutout. Cougars pitchers had an off night, as they allowed a season-high 16 hits.
Beloit scored three times in the third against Cougars starter Vince Mazzaro (3-4), who left after 2 1/3 innings, gave up six hits, walked three and fanned none in the loss. T.J. Franco took over and surrendered a pair of tallies in the fifth to make it 5-0 before Dan Fyvie entered for two scoreless frames. Ron Madej worked the seventh and allowed just his fourth earned run of the season in 21 2/3 innings -, and Steve Sharpe worked a run-free eighth.
The offense received two singles from Mike Massaro, one from Nick Blasi and another by Justin Sellers. Waldrop (3-2), who beat the Cougars twice last season, also walked and hit a batter in his nine innings.
The Cougars (20-17) return to Elfstrom Stadium for a four-game series with Wisconsin that starts Tuesday night at 6 CDT. Jeff Gray (2-3, 7.88) is set to face Rattlers left-hander Justin Thomas (3-3, 2.13).
