Dragons Sweep Doubleheader in Wisconsin

Grand Chute, WI- The Dayton Dragons (20-18) and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (16-21) double their pleasure for the second time in three days, wrapping up the four game rain-soaked series with a matinee double header at Fox Cities Stadium Monday afternoon. The Dragons and Rattlers split the DH on Saturday night and both teams looked for a sweep of the twin bill on Monday to win the series. Dayton pulled off the sweep on Monday to take three of four in the series with a 7-2 win in game one and a 6-0 shutout win in game two.

For the third consecutive game the Dragons got on the board first with a single tally in the top of the second inning. Bobby Mosby gave Dayton a 1-0 lead with an RBI double scoring B.J. Szymanksi, who led off the inning with a two base hit. The lead grew to 3-0 off Rattlers starter Jose Escalona (LP, 4-3) in the third on a two out two RBI single by Habelito Hernandez. Wisconsin closed to within 3-2 with a pair of runs in the third off Travis Wood (WP, 3-0). Jairo Hernandez hit a solo HR and Robbie Hudson, who walked and went to third on a single, scored on a throwing error to cut the lead to 3-2.

Dayton blew the game open with one run in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh off the Rattlers bullpen. Mike DeJesus drove home a run in the sixth, Gerardo Cabrera plated a pair with a two out double in the seventh and Mike Griffin added an RBI single, also in the seventh. Blake Hendley (SV, 7) blanked the Rattlers over the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out five. Hendley replaced Wood, who struck over six in his 5.0 innings of work and allowed two hits to pick up the win.

In game two, the Dragons jumped in front with a four run third inning off Rattlers starter Jason Snyder (LP, 2-4), picking up four runs on four hits against the right hander. Josh Holden led the inning off with a single and Griffin followed with a base hit of his own. The pair was moved up to second and third on a wild pitch by Snyder. Jay Bruce got Dayton on the board on a ground ball to first that scored Holden for a 1-0 lead. Szymanski's second RBI double of the day made it 2-0 and Hernandez continued his hot hitting with another two RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.

Jeff Stevens (WP, 2-2) picked up the win for the Dragons with 5.2 solid innings of work. Stevens fanned five and walked only one, scattering five hits on the afternoon. Bo Lanier (SV, 2) finished off the Rattlers over the final 1.1 innings to pick up his second save.

Dayton added a pair of runs late, plating two against Jeff Gilmore (ND) in the seventh. DeJesus picked up an RBI double to left and Szymanski added his second RBI of the day on a single to right center to push the lead to 6-0

The Dragons open a four game series with the Fort Wayne Wizards at Fifth Third Field beginning on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM. 1410 ESPN Radio WING AM will broadcast the game live beginning with the Dragons pre game show at 6:30 PM.
