
'Wolves Take Down Sea Dogs 11-5

The SeaWolves rebounded after a shutout loss on Tuesday night, taking down the Portland Sea Dogs 11-5 at Hadlock Field.
The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the first inning against Portland starter Jarod Plummer. Deik Scram stepped in with one out, worked an eight-pitch at-bat and homered over the wall in right-center for a 1-0 lead. The solo shot was Scram's eighth of the season.
Portland struck back in the bottom of the third against Erie starter Luis Marte. Ryan Khoury led off with a walk and Reid Engel reached on an infield single putting two on for the top of the lineup with no outs. Josh Reddick singled home Khoury, tying the game at 1-1. With Engel on third, Mark Wagner hit a sacrifice fly to right, bringing home Engel for a 2-1 Sea Dogs lead.
The SeaWolves would regain the lead in the top of the fifth. Mike Hollimon led off with a walk, Cale Iorg reached safely on an error by the third baseman Jorge Jimenez and Danny Worth was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Andy Dirks. Dirks singled up the middle, scoring Hollimon, tying the game at 2-2. Max Leon followed and grounded into a double play, but Iorg scored from third, giving the âWolves a 3-2 lead. With two outs, Scram singled home Worth completing a three-run inning, giving the Howlers a 4-2 advantage.
Erie's offense would explode in the top of the sixth. Ryan Strieby doubled down the right field line and moved to third on a single by Jeff Kunkel. Hollimon then struck out for the first out of the inning. Iorg followed with a walk to load the bases for Worth. Worth grounded to the third baseman Jimenez who threw out Strieby at the plate for the second out. Dirks came to the plate and fell behind in the count. He then sent a soft grounder to the second baseman Khoury. Khory gloved and threw to first, but Dirks beat it out for an infield single. On the play, both Kunkel and Iorg scored giving Erie a 6-2 lead. Leon walked to reload the bases for Scram. Scram drew a bases loaded walk, bringing home Worth for a 7-2 lead. Casper Wells followed with a two-run singe up the middle for a 9-2 Erie advantage. Strieby finished off the scoring with a two-run double, his second of the inning, for an 11-2 Erie lead. The two RBI for Strieby snapped a streak of six consecutive games without an RBI.
Portland would get a run back in the bottom of the sixth when Jimenez homered for the sixth time and second in as many games to make it 11-3. In the seventh, the Sea Dogs would two more runs against reliever Josh Rainwater to close the gap down to six runs at 11-5 but they would get no closer. Relievers Jay Sborz and Cody Satterwhite threw two scoreless innings, ending the game, preserving the Erie win.
Marte (5-6) picked up the win, his third in four starts, going six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. The seven K's ties a season-high which he has done four times.
The win snapped Erie's season-long four-game road losing streak.
The âWolves will look now look for its third consecutive series win on Thursday night in the finale against Portland.
