Recent Curve Promotions Make Minor League Baseballs "Top 10"

June 17, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA, PA - Proud owners of a longstanding track record as one of the most innovative franchises in all of minor league baseball for trend-setting promotions, the Altoona Curve (AA - Pittsburgh Pirates) have once again been recognized for their "outside-the-box" thinking.

Recently, the Curve has twice cracked MILB.com's list of Top 10 Promotions of the Week for minor league baseball.

The Altoona Curve were given recognition by MILB.com reporter Benjamin Hill for the team's upcoming "Land of Lincoln" promotion on Thursday and their previous promotional effort of "Facebook Friday" night at Blair County Ballpark on June 5. Below are the actual excerpts written about the Altoona Curve's two unique promotions:

"Land of Lincoln, June 18 The Curve's roster currently includes former first-round Draft pick Brad Lincoln, which provides the team with all the justification they need to stage a promo honoring former president Abraham Lincoln. Fans armed with a $5 bill (it's got Lincoln's picture on it, see?) can enjoy a wide variety of ticket, concessions and merchandise specials, and a Brad Lincoln autographed prize pack will be given away to one lucky game attendee. There will be plenty of opportunities to gain free admission to the ballpark as well -- so long as you're named Abraham or Lincoln, reside in Illinois or Gettysburg, Pa., or possess the ability to recite the Gettysburg Address in its entirety. That can't be too hard, right? It's only three paragraphs long.

Facebook Friday, June 5 The Curve are well aware that the quickest and easiest way to make friends is through the time-tested art of bribery. Therefore, the club is staging "Facebook Friday" on, um, Friday, and it is sure to boost the team's presence on the world's most popular social networking Web site. How it works is simple -- fans who are "friends" with the team on Facebook will receive $2 off the cost of the ticket, and more importantly, will be guaranteed to receive that evening's Diesel Dawg bank giveaway. As someone who once spent 16 hours touching a life-size bobblehead of Diesel Dawg, I can attest that anything bearing his likeness will make for a fine giveaway item."

"It's a great to be recognized for our attempts to be innovative and entertaining in addition to providing fans with a great family value," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "I think through the first two and a half months of the season, our fans have enjoyed a unique ballpark experience while taking advantage of great specials to make Curve baseball a true bargain."

Fans can also still reserve great seats for Thursday's game against the New Britain Rock Cats (AA - Minnesota Twins) by contacting the Curve directly at 877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the Blair County Ballpark box office.
