ENTERING TONIGHT'S ACTION...

Tonight, the SeaWolves take on the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox) in the middle game of a three-game series at Hadlock Field. The 'Wolves were shutout in the series opener on Tuesday night, 5-0 and were limited to just three hits in the losing effort. It marked the third time in the last nine games that Erie has been shut out. The 'Wolves were shut out just twice in the first 54 games of the season. In the last 10 games, Erie's offense is batting just .225. Deik Scram is the only current SeaWolf to hit above .300 in the last 10. The 'Wolves have dropped four consecutive road games which is the clubs longest road losing streak of the season. Erie has also dropped eight of his last 12 games away from Jerry Uht Park...With last night's loss, the SeaWolves are now 6.5 games behind first place Akron following the Aeros win over New Hampshire. Reading fell to Bowie and Erie remains two games behind the second place club...Portland is tied for third in the EL North, 3.5 games out of first...After beginning the season with 56 consecutive games against Southern Division opponents, the 'Wolves are in a stretch of 12 games against the EL North. Erie will play 41 games against the Northern Division in 2009...Righty Luis Marte takes the mound for the Howlers making his 12th start of the season and second against Portland. Marte took a loss to Portland in his last start, breaking his two-game winning streak. He allowed four runs on nine hits with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings of work...Sea Dogs starter Jarod Plummer beat Erie on June 11. He allowed three runs on two hits with six walks and seven strikeouts in six innings of work.
