June 17, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Senators made it two in a row over the B-Mets with an 8-1 win on Wednesday Night at Metro Bank Park. The Sens won for the 11th time in their past 15 games and move to 24-38 on the season. Harrisburg has now defeated the B-Mets four out of five times this season with the two teams still playing seven more times this year.
Carlos Martinez started and was outstanding again, scattering nine hits but allowing just one run in earning his third win of the year. Dave Williams pitched out of a one-out bases loaded jam in the seventh and Josh Wilkie pitched a perfect ninth inning in the win. Jenrry Mejia started for the B-Mets and was saddled with the loss despite striking out eight batters in five innings.
At the plate, the Senators just kept up the recent offensive surge with 12 more hits, three by Leonard Davis and Ricardo Nanita and two each for Bill Rhinehart and Marvin Lowrance.
In the seventh inning, with the score 3-1, the Sens loaded the bases with no outs. Davis then dumped a single into left field which was followed by a grand slam off the bat of Ian Desmond. It was the first grand slam of the season for Desmond and the third this year for the Senators.
The series and homestand come to a conclusion on Thursday night at 7:00pm with LH Cory VanAllen on the hill against LH Mike Antonini. The Senators will be looking for their first three-game series sweep of the season.
