'Wolves Take Down Cats in Finale

The SeaWolves scored nine two-out runs on Sunday afternoon at New Britain Stadium, taking down the Rock Cats 9-5. The win, combined with a Harrisburg loss, sends Erie into the off day a half game out of first place.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead of New Britain starter Trevor May in the top of the second inning. With one out, Marcus Lemon and Luis Castillo each singled. With two outs, Jamie Johson walked loading the bases for Eugenio Suarez. Suarez lined a single to right, plating Lemon and Castillo for a 2-0 lead. Daniel Fields followed with a single plating Johnson and Suarez for a 4-0 lead. Ramon Cabrera capped a five-run inning with a single to right, plating Fields.

The Cats got a run back in the last of the second against Erie starter Matt Crouse. Even Bigley singled with one out and scored on a two-out Jordan Parraz single making it 5-1 in favor of Erie.

The 'Wolves extended the lead in the third with more two-out hitting. Wade Gaynor led off with a walk, Castillo walked with one out and Johnson walked with two outs. Suarez singled to left, plating two for a 7-1 lead. Fields followed with a knock, scoring Johnson for an 8-1 lead.

New Britain cut into the lead in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Bigley led off with a walk and scored on a two-out Parraz home run making it 8-3.

In the fifth, Danny Santana led off with a double and Nate Hanson singled with one out. Dan Rohlfing and Bigley followed with back-to-back RBI hits making it an 8-5 game.

The 'Wolves added an insurance run in the eighth. Tyler Collins singled with one out and was brought in on a Lemon triple for a 9-5 lead.

Crouse (7-9) earned the win allowing five runs on eight hit with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

The Erie bullpen of Will Clinard, Ryan Robowski and Melvin Mercedes tossed the final four scoreless innings to preserve the win.
