Curve Fall in Series Finale with Aeros Sunday

Curve, Pa.- The Altoona Curve rallied late, but fell just short, in a 4-3 loss to the Akron Aeros on Sunday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field in front of 6,262 fans. Adalberto Santos knocked in two runs and extended his hitting streak to nine games with a pair of hits in the loss.

Akron struck first taking a 2-0 lead, in the top half of the fifth inning. The Altoona offense answered back in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Andy Vasquez and Drew Maggi hit back-to-back singles for the Curve to get the rally started. Santos followed with a two-run double to knot the game up at two.

The Aeros (55-59) answered back with two more runs in the top half of the seventh inning to make it a two-run game yet again at, 4-2. Justin Howard, and Mel Rojas Jr. each singled to get something going again in the bottom half of the seventh. Vasquez singled to drive home Howard and bring the Curve back within one at, 4-3. Maggi was hit to load the bases, but Aeros' reliever Enosil Tejeda was able to get Alen Hanson to ground into an inning ending double play.

Nick Kingham worked five innings for Altoona (53-59) allowing seven hits and two runs, while walking three and striking out four. Toru Murata (5-5) went 6.1 innings for the Aeros allowing eight hits and three Curve runners to score to earn the victory.

Zack Thornton (1-1) took the loss allowing two runs in two innings of relief. Santos, Howard, and Vasquez all had multi-hit games for the Curve in the defeat. Howard has had multiple hits in three straight games and in four of his last seven.

LHP Eliecer Navarro (3-4, 4.06) will get the ball in the series opener and game one of the doubleheader against the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium on Tuesday night with first pitch scheduled for 5:35 p.m. Navarro last pitched against the B-Mets on August 1 allowing just one run over seven innings of work and striking out a Double-A season-high nine. He will be opposed by a starter yet to be determined for Binghamton. The Curve game two starter has yet to be determined and will be opposed by the B-Mets LHP Darin Gorski (3-1, 2.08). Gorski tossed seven innings allowing just one unearned run on July 31 against Altoona.
