
Bowie scores late to beat Portland 6-4

(Bowie, MD) - The Bowie Baysox (56-57) snapped a 4-4 tie in the seventh with two runs, and held on to beat the Portland Sea Dogs (56-58) 6-4 on Sunday night at Prince George's Stadium. Portland finishes the roadtrip at 2-4, but wins the series in Bowie, taking two of three.
Right-hander Tyler Wilson (7-1) tossed seven innings on seven hits and four runs to earn the win for Bowie. Worcester, Mass native Oliver Drake fired two scoreless two earn his sixth save of the year.
Portland's Miguel Celestino (1-8) suffered the loss, giving up one run on one hit over 2.1 IP. Celestino left the game in the seventh after a walk to Trayvon Robinson with the game tied at four. Matt Maloney yielded an RBI double by Buck Britton, proving to be the game-winning hit. Caleb Joseph followed with a run-scoring single.
Portland grabbed a run in the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead. Heiker Meneses (2-for-3) and Matty Johnson singled, Shannon Wilkerson delivered a sacrifice fly to right field.
Bowie took their first lead of the series in the fourth inning off starter Jeremy Kehrt (4.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO). Former Red Sox Niuman Romero tied the game with a sac-fly. Seth Loman nailed a run-scoring single. The Baysox added two more off Kehrt in the fifth on Buck Britton's two-run single.
The Sea Dogs responded in the sixth inning, cutting the deficit to 4-3 on a two-run single by Christian Vazquez. In the seventh, J.C. Linares clubbed a solo-homer down the left-field line, tying the game at four.
Portland is now 4-6 during a 22-game stretch against the Western Division, which ends on August 17th in Harrisburg, PA.

The Sea Dogs are off on Monday and return to Hadlock Field on Tuesday night to battle the Richmond Flying Squirrels (Giants affiliate) in the first of a three-game series. RHP Matt Barnes (5-7, 4.38) takes on LHP Jack Snodgrass (8-4, 3.70) - Game time is 7:00 PM.
