SeaWolves Drop Second Straight to Cats

The SeaWolves dropped their second straight game at New Britain Stadium, 6-4, to the Rock Cats on Saturday night.

The Cats struck in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. Danny Salazar, Eddie Rosario and Nate Hanson each singled to load the bases. With one out, Even Bigley hit into a fielder's choice that allowed two runs to score, giving the Cats a 2-0 lead. Daniel Ortiz singled home Bigley and Reynaldo Rodriguez doubled home Ortiz for a 4-0 lead.

Erie responded against Rock Cats starter B.J. Hermsen in the second. Ramon Cabrera led off with a walk and was doubled to third by Tyler Collins. James McCann singled home Cabrera making it 4-1. With one out, Brandon Douglas walked to laod the bases for James Robbins. With Robbins hitting, a wild pitch scored Collins making it 4-2. Robbins grounded out, scoring McCann making it 4-3.

The SeaWolves tied the game in the fifth. With one out, Robbins walked and Jamie Johnson singled putting runners on the corners. The single for Johnson extended his hit streak to a season-best 11 straight. Johnson has now hit safely in 17 of his last 18. A double steal played Robbins from third, tying the game at 4-4.

The tie game was short lived as Saupold gave up a two-out, solo home run to Rodriguez in the last of the fifth for a 5-4 lead.

The Cats added a run in the eighth against reliever Victor Larez to make it 6-4. Larez struck out six in three innings of relief.

Saupold (6-4) took the loss allowing five runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

The 'Wolves look to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. Lefty Matt Crouse (6-9, 4.53 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Trevor May (6-7, 4.02 ERA).
