Wolves Goaltender Mannino Named AHL Player Of The Week
January 4, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
Chicago Wolves goaltender PETER MANNINO has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 3, 2010.
MANNINO backstopped Chicago to three wins in three games last week, thwarting 100 of the 104 shots he faced and posting a 1.30 goals-against average and a .962 save percentage in those outings. He currently is riding a professional career-high five-game winning streak, and has registered a 1.98 goals-against average and .942 save percentage during that span.
The 25-year-old netminder's week included holding the Houston Aeros to one goal in a 5-1 Wolves win on Dec. 30, and posting a professional career-high 45 saves - and falling just 37.6 seconds short of a shutout - in a 4-1 win against Peoria on Dec. 31. He also stopped 33 shots in regulation and overtime and four of five shootout attempts in a 3-2 shootout win over Peoria on Jan. 2.
Overall, the Farmington Hills, Mich., native has accrued an 8-2-0 record with a 2.10 goals-against average and .935 save percentage in 12 appearances this season. He has held opponents to two or fewer goals in nine of his 12 appearance between the pipes this year.
Last year, the University of Denver graduate made his professional debut and backstopped 34 matchups for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, posting a 17-12-2 record, 2.94 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. He also made his National Hockey League debut in three games with the New York Islanders, notching a 1-1-0 record with a 4.52 goals-against average and .870 save percentage, which includes earning his first career NHL victory - in his first NHL start when he turned aside 40 of 42 shots against the Chicago Blackhawks on March 15.
In recognition of his achievement, MANNINO will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Wolves home game. The Wolves travel to Canada this week to take on the Hamilton Bulldgos at Copps Coliseum on Wed., Jan. 6 at 6:30 p.m., before returning home for a pair of tilts at the Allstate Arena on Sat., Jan. 9, at 7 p.m., and Sun., Jan. 10, at 3 p.m.
