
Bulldogs Defenceman Yannick Weber Named To Switzerland Olympic Team

Hamilton, ON - Hamilton Bulldogs defenceman Yannick Weber has been announced as one of 23 players selected to Switzerland's hockey team for the 2010 Winter Olympics. 10 Bulldogs alumni were also named to Olympic rosters.
Weber, 21, has played in 33 games with Hamilton this year earning 15 points (two goals, 13 assists) along with 30 penalty minutes. The native of Zurich, Switzerland has also played in three games with the Montreal Canadiens in 2009-2010 but was held pointless. The 5-foot-10, 193-pound defenceman played in three games with his native Switzerland at the 2009 IIHF World Hockey Championships recording eight penalty minutes. Weber also represented Switzerland at the 2006, 2007 and 2008 World Junior Hockey Championships, captaining the 2008 Swiss team as he registered six points (two goals, four assists) in six games. Weber was drafted in the 3rd round, 73rd overall by Montreal in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Bulldogs alumni that were named to Olympic hockey rosters include Mikhail Grabovski (Belarus), Jaroslav Halak (Slovakia), Jan Hejda (Czech Republic), Marcel Hossa (Slovakia), Mike Komisarek (United States), Andrei Kostitsyn (Belarus), Sergei Kostitsyn (Belarus), Antti Miettinen (Finland), Tomas Plekanec (Czech Republic) and Tim Thomas (United States).
The Bulldogs will host the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday, January 6th for a 7:30 p.m. game at Copps Coliseum.
