One of the hottest teams in the WHL, the Portland Winterhawks (5-2-0-1), take on the Everett Silvertips for the third time this season. After winning the last head-to-head meeting up north, the Hawks welcome the 'Tips at the Moda Center for the first Sunday contest of the season.

PREVIOUS GAME - Winterhawks 8 vs Oil Kings 2: Offense continued to groove in the friendly confides of Veterans Memorial Coliseum as the Hawks routed the Oil Kings 8-2. TNT was played plenty and often as the Winterhawks collect their fifth straight win of the season.
In the first period, the Winterhawks jumped to a 2-0 lead. Cody Glass scored the first goal of the night in his first appearance as team captain. His linemates Joachim Blichfeld and Reece Newkirk made exceptional plays to set Glass up on the left wing post for his second goal of the season. The trio would add another goal at the midway point of the first. Blichfeld won a board battle behind the net and Cody Glass fed a gorgeous puck across the seam to Newkirk who forced in his fifth of the year.
Edmonton responded with a goal eight seconds into the second thanks to their leading scorer Trey Fix-Wolansky, but the Hawks made the most noise of the frame. Ryan Hughes and Mason Mannek scored on back-to-back power play chances to open the lead at 4-1 a few minutes later. Special teams play continued with a two-on-oh rush shorthanded and the organization's 43rd captain bangs home his second goal of the night.
The rest of the night was highlighted by a couple of WHL firsts. Cross Hanas bodied an Oil King skater hard off the puck and Jaydon Dureau slipped passed a defender to find Michal Kvasnica cross ice for a one-time goal to make it 6-2. The goal was his first as a Winterhawk.
The Hawks owned the third period as well, scoring two more power play goal. Jake Gricius knocked in his fifth of the year and Cross Hanas showed his hand-eye coordination by batting in a puck mid-air to net the first of his WHL career.

TODAY'S OPPONENT:
Tonight is the third game in three nights for the Silvertips. Fresh off a pair of home wins, Everett is looking for its second win against the Hawks this season.
Everett scored 12 of their season 23 goals this weekend against Kamloops and Edmonton on back-t0-back nights. Last night, Everett scored a season high seven goals, which included five on the power play. The team that wins the special teams battle tonight will have an upper hand.
Linemates and NHL prospects Connor Dewar and Riley Sutter each have five points this weekend. If the 'Tips catch an offensive rhythm, teams need to be wary. Last night, Everett out shot Kamloops 57 to 20 in the route.
One thing that's going for the Winterhawks is that Everett has not been battle tested much in terms of playing away from Washington. Six of their first eight games have been home games with a jaunt to Kennewick being their longest road trip of the season thus far. All that changes tonight. Everett spends the rest of the month on the road, including a six game swing in central Canada.
Dustin Wolf, much like Shane Farkas for the Winterhawks, has been a work horse to start this year. He is top five in minutes played, but it should be noted that Portland took a season high 29 shots against Everett in their 4-1 win a week ago. A high volume of shots is what it might take for the Hawks to win their sixth straight.
