Boyko Gets First WHL Start, Ams Take 5-4 Victory over Kelowna

Rookie goaltender Talyn Boyko had his first WHL regular season start tonight in Kelowna.

Nolan Yaremko opened the scoring with a power play goal just 1:09 into the first period. The shot came off a play set up by Parker AuCoin and Kyle Olson.

Riley Sawchuk scored for the Americans at 18:48, assisted by Connor Bouchard and Isaac Johnson, giving the Americans a two-goal lead.

Boyko started his WHL career out strong stopping seven shots and keeping the Rockets scoreless in the first period.

The Rockets came back with two power play goals in the second period to tie the game.

Jack Cowell gave Kelowna an early lead in the third period with an unassisted goal. Isaac Johnson responded at 6:11 to tie the game 4-4. Wilton once again took the lead for Kelowna at 9:58. Riley Sawchuk and Isaac Johnson responded with scoring their second goals of the night :27 apart to seal the 5-4 win for the Americans.

The Americans out shot the Rockets 38-28.

Final score: 5-4 Tri-City

Seattle visits the Toyota Center for the first time this season on Friday.
