Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Saskatoon, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders (10-1-0-0) picked up their second win in a 24-hour span with a 6-2 victory over the Saskatoon Blades (7-3-0-0) on Sunday afternoon at SaskTel Centre.
The win ended a 15-game losing streak for the Raiders at SaskTel Centre. Over that span, the Raiders held an 0-14-1-0 record in Saskatoon.
Early in the game, the Blades got on the board first. With Zack Hayes in the box, Kristian Roykas-Marthinsen finished off a cross-ice pass at the 2:36 mark of the period. Saskatoon's power-play goal ended a streak of 26 successful penalties killed by the Raiders.
The Raiders tied the game shortly after. Brayden Pachal's shot from the right faceoff circle hit Spencer Moe in front of the net and ricocheted past Maier to make it 1-1.
Midway through the period, Parker Kelly put the Raiders ahead. The Ottawa Senators signee buried a one-timer from Sergei Sapego for his sixth goal of the season.
In the second, the Blades retied the game. Dawson Davidson's point shot got through Ian Scott on another power play for Saskatoon.
Before the end of the period, the Raiders got back in front. Sean Montgomery skated around the Blades' zone and drew two defenders to him. The overager found his fellow Calgarian Brett Leason with a beautiful cross-ice pass, who made no mistake in finding the back of the net with 2:48 to play in the frame.
Brayden Pachal added the insurance marker at the 9:50 mark of the third period. After Noah Gregor hit Kirby Dach in the corner, the puck found its way to the Raiders captain at the side of the net, who lifted it over Maier to put the Raiders up two.
Five minutes later, the Raiders extended the lead. Leason found a cutting Montgomery, who snapped a shot past Maier.
With 34 seconds left, Leason added an empty-net, shorthanded goal to round out the scoring at 6-2.
Scott was good when called upon, making 26 saves for his ninth win of the year. Maier stopped 25 Raider shots in a losing effort.
The Raiders are back at home on Tuesday night when the Calgary Hitmen (1-5-2-0) make their first trip to the Art Hauser Centre this season. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at raiderhockey.com and the Raider Office.
Also coming up at the Art Hauser Centre is Hocktoberfest on Saturday, October 27 when the Regina Pats come to town. For just $35, fans get a ticket to the game, a "Raiderhosen" t-shirt, and a 30 oz. boot stein with one free fill. Game time is 7 p.m. For more information, contact the Raider Office.
