Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers defeated Central Division Rivals, the Kootenay ICE, in a shootout Saturday night at the Canalta Centre.
Ryan Jevne scored in the sixth round of the shootout to seal the Tigers' victory.
After a scoreless first period, the Tigers struck first early into the second stanza. Tyler Preziuso dished the puck to Hayden Ostir who walked into the slot and fired the puck into the net to give the home team the lead.
Early into the final frame, ICE forward Davis Murray scored his fifth goal of the second to tie the game at one apiece.
James Hamblin responded for the home team by burying a rebound on a power play. Preziuso and Jevne assisted on the play.
The ICE kept coming and nearly three minutes later, Jaeger White and Jakin Smallwood scored for the ICE to take their first lead of the night.
With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Jevne dropped the puck to Preziuso who fired one into traffic in front of the net. Ryan Chyzowski pounced on the rebound and beat ICE goaltender Jesse Makaj stick side to send the game into overtime.
Neither team was able to score during overtime and the game went to six rounds in the shootout before Jevne scored the game winner.
Tigers netminder Jordan Hollett turned aside 32 of the 35 shots faced. Makaj stopped 25 of the Tabbies' 28 shots.
