October 14, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, SK - A third-period goal from Brett Leason was the difference as the Prince Albert Raiders (9-1-0-0) edged the Red Deer Rebels (5-3-1-0) 2-1 on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
The goal was Leason's second point of the evening, extending his season-long streak to 10 games.
It didn't take long to get the scoring started. Sean Montgomery pounced on a loose puck in front of the net, beating Ethan Anders at the 68 seconds into the contest. Leason and Aliaksei Protas picked up assists on the goal. With his helper, Protas moved into first in rookie scoring in the WHL.
Three minutes later, the Rebels evened the score. Reese Johnson solved Ian Scott at the 4:07 mark of the frame.
After the first five minutes, the goaltenders took over. Anders and Scott shut down the opposition. Scott had 16 saves through the first two periods for the Raiders, while Anders turned aside 21 shots for the Rebels.
The Raiders broke through at the five-minute mark of the third. Leason dumped the puck into the Rebels' end. The puck bounced off the endboards and right back to Leason, who snapped his shot through Anders' five hole.
For the rest of the period, Scott held down the fort. The Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick turned aside all 12 shots fired his way by the Rebels, including a furious final push by the visitors. The Calgary product made 28 saves on the night for his eighth win of the year.
In the other crease, Anders made 25 saves in a losing effort.
The Raiders are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they visit the SaskTel Centre to take on the Saskatoon Blades (7-2-0-0). Game time is 2 p.m.
The next Raiders' home game is on Tuesday night when the Calgary Hitmen (1-5-1-0) make their first trip to the Art Hauser Centre this season. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at raiderhockey.com and the Raider Office.
Also coming up at the Art Hauser Centre is Hocktoberfest on Saturday, October 27 when the Regina Pats come to town. For just $35, fans get a ticket to the game, a "Raiderhosen" t-shirt, and a 30 oz. boot stein with one free fill. Game time is 7 p.m. For more information, contact the Raider Office.
