November 11, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, announced today that the club has recalled forward Josh Zakreski from the Saskatoon Blazers of the SMAAAHL.
Zakreski, 16, skated in four games for Portland during the 2021 WHL preseason, recording one goal and one assist during that span. He was assigned to the Blazers U18 program to start the 2021-22 season and he is currently second on the team in goals (7) and points (12) through the club's first 11 games.
The Saskatoon Blazers have produced multiple Portland standouts, including current Winterhawk forward and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Jaydon Dureau.
Prior to advancing to the Blazers, the Saskatoon, Sask. native played for the Saskatoon Maniacs and Saskatoon Generals and finished second on both teams in scoring. Through 69 games at the U15 level, Zakreski scored 59 goals and 62 assists for 121 points.
Zakreski was originally selected by the Winterhawks in the eighth round of the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft, and he signed with the team on June 28.
