Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, Sask. - A third-period push wasn't enough as the Prince Albert Raiders (5-8-0-1) dropped a 4-2 game to the Edmonton Oil Kings (10-3-2-1) on Wednesday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
Hayden Pakkala and Reece Vitelli were the goal scorers as the Raiders' three-game winning streak and four-game point streak were snapped.
Edmonton got the scoring started 6:47 into the first period with a power-play marker. Josh Williams' shot from the slot was sent over the net. It ricocheted off the glass behind the net and fell to Simon Kubicek in front. The Oil Kings defenceman swatted at the puck and knocked it past Carter Serhyenko to make it 1-0.
Less than two minutes into the second, the Oil Kings struck again. Carter Souch carried the puck in the zone and cut to the outside on the Raiders defenceman. He carried the puck to the left faceoff circle and snapped a shot that got by Serhyenko short-side to put Edmonton up 2-0.
About 30 seconds later, the Oil Kings added another. Souch forced a turnover behind the Raiders goal. He found Dylan Guenther alone in front of the net and he hit a one-timer over Serhyenko to give Edmonton a 3-0 advantage.
The lead held until the 1:49 mark of the third period when the Raiders got on the board on the power play. Vladislav Shilo's one-timer was turned aside by Sebastian Cossa, but the puck trickled out from between his legs. Vitelli was able to collect the puck and stuff it home past an Oil Kings defenceman for his sixth of the season, making it a 3-1 game.
The Raiders struck again on the power play with 2:24 left in the third. Nolan Allan's point shot hit Landon Kosior in front of the net. The puck fell to Pakkala, who let a quick wrist shot go that beat Cossa over his blocker to make it a one-goal game.
With the extra attacker, the Raiders continued to press for the equalizer. However, the Oil Kings were able to clear the zone and Jakub Demek skated the puck into the empty net to ice the game at 4-2.
Both goalies faced their fair share of shots in the contest. Serhyenko made 33 saves in the loss for the Raiders; Cossa turned aside 41 Raider attempts to pick up the win.
The Raiders are back at home on Friday night when the Red Deer Rebels come to town. The Raiders will be wearing their CHL Leave Your Mark Design a Jersey Contest winning jerseys for the night. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at SaskTix.ca and at the Raiders Office.
