Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB - Landon Roberts scored his first two goals as a Brandon Wheat King, bookending a five goal outburst from the BWK on route to a 5-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Thursday afternoon.
The Wheat Kings scored two short-handed markers on the first penalty of the hockey game and never looked back. Rylen Roersma, Riley Ginnell and Brett Hyland added singles for the Wheat Kings who move to 6-9-0-0 on the season.
"We were pretty desperate coming into this one here tonight," Roersma said on the Bounce 96.1 post-game show. "This win was all about getting back to what we do best. We need to be a hard team to play against to be successful and I think we did that tonight."
Ethan Kruger made his return to the crease, kicking aside 31 shots for his third win of the season.
After a string of lenghty injuries, Ridly Greig, Nate Danielson and Vincent Iorio all drew back into the lineup on Thursday. This was the first time all season the Wheat Kings have had 12 forwards dressed in a game. (Not including an AP call-up)
"Having fresh legs each shift makes a big difference," Roersma added. "We had four lines rolling tonight, we played big and fast. "We let off the gas a bit in the second period but we got the job done and locked it down."
The Wheat Kings will have a quick turnaround, as they welcome the Saskatoon Blades to Westoba Place on Friday night, a team that comes to Brandon with 21 points in the Eastern Conference standings.
"The biggest thing for us right now is figuring out how to play consistently every night" added Roersma. "We are a fast team, but we've been playing slow and making mistakes. We have to do the little things every night to be successful and tonight is a good example of how it works when we do."
Tickets are on-sale now for Friday night at the Keystone Centre Box Office, or online. Game time is 7:00.
