Regina Pats News Release

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats fell 3-2 to the Red Deer Rebels on Wednesday night in front of over 5,000 fans at the Brandt Centre.

The Pats are now 6-8-0 on the season, while the Rebels improve to 11-6-1 and hold onto first place in the Central Division.

The Regiment got goals from Tanner Howe and Stanislav Svozil - his first in the WHL - but they weren't able to generate as many high-danger chances than in their previous outings. Red Deer got goals from Kai Uchacz, Kalen Lind and a game-winner from Talon Brigley while shorthanded, which was his first WHL goal.

The Pats host the Edmonton Oil Kings next on the schedule on Friday night.

THE GOALS

1st Period

REG 1-0 at 3:36 - Tanner Howe (5), assisted by Drew Englot// Howe hopped on the loose puck just inside the Red Deer zone and quickly fired a shot over the blocker of Chase Coward after some good work along the wall from Englot.

RD 1-1 at 15:01 - Kai Uchacz (4), assisted by Talon Brigley// Brigley did good work to enter the offensive zone and chip the puck into open space to get around Layton Feist, and centred a pass for Uchacz, who banged it home to tie the game.

RD 2-1 at 17:59 - Kalan Lind (4), assisted by Kai Uchacz // Uchacz battled to keep the puck inside the zone and whacked it down low, where it found Lind, who quickly fired a shot from the bottom of the circle.

2nd Period

REG 2-2 at 5:50 - Stanislav Svozil (1) scores. Assists: #41 Ryker Evans// Evans teed up Svozil on the power play for a blast that beat Coward cleanly past the blocker.

RD 3-2 at 14:18 - Talon Brigley (1), unassisted (SHG) // Brigley turned on the jets off a defensive zone face-off, sprinting to the loose puck and beating both Howe and Tom Cadieux to the puck, before finishing top corner for his first WHL goal, which held up as the game-winner.

THEY SAID IT

Assistant Coach Ken Schneider: "Hard to generate offence against a big, veteran team. Their game is really structured, so it take a lot of effort to make a play and get to the net. I thought we battled really hard. The message to our guys was we need to play 60 minutes against a team of this calibre...we've got some pretty good skill and speed, so we need to use our speed to create opportunities for ourselves and we weren't great off the face-offs, in particular in their end of the rink. When we were losing those face-offs, we weren't creating any pressure on their puck carriers and when you're in their zone, that's when you really need to get the forecheck on. Get on them hard and create a turnover...as many shots as we did get, we didn't get a ton of quality shots, to be quite honest."

3 STARS

Kai Uchacz - RD - 1G, 1A

Stanislav Svozil - REG - 1G

Ryker Evans - REG - 1A
