Kansas City Monarchs News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - The Kansas City T-Bones (30-35) saw a season high four-game win streak come to an end with a 12-5 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs (31-34) on Friday night at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, NE.
Lincoln jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Reid Santos (7-4) in the second inning, scoring the first two on a double by Blake Gailen. Gavin Dickey and Phil Hawke drove in a run each with base hits as well to cap off the frame.
The Saltdogs put the game out of reach in the fifth, scoring eight runs on seven hits to gain a commanding 12-0 advantage. A two-run single by Vance Albitz and a two-run double from Dickey highlighted the attack.
Santos left after surrendering an RBI single to the third batter in the fifth, Jorge Cortes. The left-hander was charged with six runs, five earned, on nine hits over four and one-thirds innings in the loss. Martin Dewald faced five batters in the frame but failed to secure an out. He was tagged for five runs on four hits and one walk.
Steven Stewart allowed one run on five hits over two and two-thirds innings of relief and shortstop Jimmy Mojica retired all three batters he faced in the eighth to finish the game for Kansas City.
Left-hander Jino Gonzalez (1-0) threw six shutout innings for Lincoln, allowing just five hits while striking out five in the victory. Paul Koss took over in the seventh and surrendered an RBI double to Johnny Bowden and a run-scoring single to Gerardo Caceres as Kansas City got on the board, 12-2.
The T-Bones added three more runs against Koss in the ninth, two on a single by Ray Sadler, to make the final 12-5. The first two batters in the Saltdogs lineup, Gailen (four-for-five, two RBI) and Dickey (three-for-four, three RBI), combined to go seven-for-nine with five RBI to pace the Lincoln offense.
Kansas City sends Kris Johnson (2-2, 3.91) to the mound on Saturday night as the T-Bones look to rebound against Tim Brown (6-6, 4.59) and Lincoln. First pitch is set for 7:05.
