Gonzalez, Hit Parade in Fifth Fuel Saltdogs

LINCOLN - Jino Gonzalez tossed six shutout innings and the offense exploded for eight runs in the fifth as the Saltdogs routed the Kansas City T-Bones 12-5 in front of 3,058 fans at Haymarket Park Friday night.

Lincoln opened the game's scoring with four two-out runs in the second, highlighted by a Blake Gailen two-run double to left.

In the dynamic fifth, the Saltdogs sent 12 men to the plate, tallying eight runs on eight hits to extend their lead to 12-0.

Gonzalez (1-0) pitched six innings, allowing no runs on just five hits while striking out five and walking one to earn the win. Reid Santos (7-5) gave up six runs on nine hits to suffer the loss.

Gailen finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI. Gavin Dickey went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBI. Vance Albitz produced three hits and two RBI.

Joe Ramos and Rafael Alvarez also booked two-hit nights as well in the 18-hit effort.

The teams meet again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. for game two of the three-game series. Tim Brown (6-6, 4.59) is set to pitch against Kris Johnson (2-2, 3.91). Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
