St. Paul Saints News Release

With a desperate need for an outfielder, the St. Paul Saints have signed former Lincoln Saltdog outfielder Argelis Nunez. Nunez comes over to St. Paul after playing for the Lake County Fielders of the North American Baseball League this season. For Lake County, Nunez hit .356 with nine home runs and 28 RBI in 36 games.

The 29-year-old Nunez played in the American Association with the Saltdogs in 2009 and 2010. Last season with the Saltdogs, Nunez reached career highs in homers and RBI with 22 and 82, respectively.

In 1998, Nunez was a nondrafted free agent signing by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He began his professional career in 2000 and experienced three different levels of ball including Rookie, Single-A, and Triple-A. Playing all of 2001 at Single-A, Nunez then sat out the next three seasons. In 2005, Nunez returned to the Diamondbacks organization and pitched at Advanced-A ball. Nunez sat out the next two years before returning to baseball in 2008, playing in the United Baseball League, in addition to the aforementioned American Association and North American Baseball League.

The Saints roster now stands one shy of the league maximum with 21 players, 10 pitchers and 11 position players.
