Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox and Grand Prairie Airhogs pounded out six homeruns in a well-played game on Friday night, but a three-run walkoff homerun from Jason White in the ninth gave the Sox a 7-4 victory in front of 4,146 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.

Amarillo reliever Austin Chambliss (1-3) got the win, striking out the only batter he faced with two runners on base in the ninth inning. Grand Prairie reliever Jon Fulton (2-2) got the loss, allowing no earned runs despite allowing the homerun to White in the ninth. Sox first baseman Cyle Hankerd hit three homerun in the effort.

The Sox got on the board first in the first inning as Fehlandt Lentini led off with a hit and scored on a Cyle Hankerd homerun. Alex Chavez added a solo homer in the second, while Lentini scored on a Hankerd RBI groundout in the third for a 4-0 Amarillo lead.

The Airhogs tied the game in the fifth inning. John Alonso led off with a solo homerun, while Chris McMurray hit a two-run blast following a David Thomas triple. Tyler Henley capped off the inning with a solo shot to tie the game 4-4.

Grand Prairie threatened in the ninth inning. Thomas walked with one out and went to second on a McMurray single. Amarillo reliever Jacob Wortham coaxed a flyout to Henley for the second out, while Chambliss struck out Danny Figueroa to end the inning with the game still tied.

In the bottom half, Van Pope walked, and attempted to steal, but was caught in a pickle. The attempted throw got away and allowed Pope to get to second. Following an intentional walk to Kevin Butler, White hit the first pitch he saw down the right field line and over the fence for a walkoff three-run homerun to give the Sox the 7-4 win.

With the win, the Sox improve to 30-35 while the Airhogs fall to 42-22.
