Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

EL PASO, Texas -- The last time the Grand Prairie AirHogs faced El Paso Diablos starter Colin Allen, they scored eight runs without recording an out, while Allen still pitched for the Amarillo Sox. In his first start as a Diablo, Allen gave up nine runs to the AirHogs, albeit in 3 1/3 innings, as Grand Prairie jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 14-6 win at Cohen Stadium to salvage the three-game series.

The first two batters of each of the first two innings reached and scored against Allen (1-6), with two groundouts in the first bringing in the runs and a double and a wild pitch providing them in the second. The three-spot for the AirHogs (42-21) in the third came after Allen had retired the first two hitters, but two hits and a walk loaded the bases for Tyler Henley, who un-loaded them with a double over the head of centerfielder Kory Drew, who had initially come in on the ball.

El Paso (19-44) got one back off Lance Janke (2-1) in the third, three more (but only one earned) in the fourth and one in the fifth, but the AirHogs scored two in each of the fourth and fifth innings to stay comfortably ahead at 11-5.

However, the sixth inning began ominously for Grand Prairie, with Jorge Crespo hitting Greg Porter on the first pitch of the inning. Home plate umpire Kurt Branin immediately ejected Crespo, but the AirHogs suffered a far worst fate, as Porter left the game with what is suspected to be a broken thumb.

The AirHogs did not score in that inning but did get a run in the seventh and two in the eighth to finish their offensive attack with 18 hits.

Cody Railsback allowed one run in three innings of relief of Janke, and Jon Hunton pitched a perfect ninth to finish things off for Grand Prairie.
