Bakersfield Condors News Release
Anchorage, Alaska - Paul Willett recorded three goals and an assist, while J.J. Wrobel notched two goals and two helpers against his former team as the Bakersfield Condors defeated the Anchorage Aces 7-2 on Wednesday night in front of 1,914 fans at Sullivan Arena.
Bakersfield got on board early, with J.J. Wrobel's first goal as a Condor. His wraparound made it 1-0 Bakersfield, just 1:03 into the game. Paul Willett took advantage of a bad bounce to net his 15th of the season later in the first. The dump in from center ice riccocheted off the glass partition out in front and Willett made it 2-0. Less than two minutes later, Jeff Goldie deflected a shot from Christian Skoryna to make it 3-0 Condors after one period. Shawn Byram picked up an assist on Goldie's tally to extend his point streak to nine games (4g-10a).
The Condors added to the lead in the second period, with Willett and Wrobel tallying their second each of the game. Willett finished off a beautiful feed from Wrobel to make it 4-0. Wrobel tallied his second of the game, finding the top shelf on the power play from in close on the Anchorage cage. The Aces got on the board with less than five minutes remaining in the middle frame, when Yvan Corbin scored his 26th of the season. He slipped home a rebound from the doorstep to make it 5-1 after two periods.
The Condors added two more in the third period, with Goldie's second of the game on a wrist shot from the right wing and Willett's third of the contest at 8:10. It was the fourth hat trick of Willett's Condor career and the first for the team this season. Beau Fritz replaced St. Pierre with under nine minutes remaining, and saw three shots, letting one in on a slap shot from the blue line by Tim Donnelly. The Condors took the win 7-2, and kept pace with San Diego, who beat Fresno tonight 2-1.
The Condors head to San Diego to play the Gulls on Friday night in a 7:00pm matchup before returning to Centennial Garden on Saturday and Sunday nights. Saturday's game against Idaho features the return of the Blues Brothers, presented by FOX 98.5 and HealthSouth. Game time is 7:00pm. On Sunday, the Condors host the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 5:00pm for Cheer Sign Giveaway Night. Everyone in attendance will receive a Condors Cheer Sign, featuring a full color picture of defenseman Quinn Fair, sponsored by the Bakersfield Californian, Real Rock 104.3 and Coleman Homes.
