Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Paul Willett scored three goals and added an assist as Bakersfield built a 5-0 lead and coasted to a 7-2 victory over Anchorage Wednesday at Sullivan Arena.

J.J. Wrobel, traded by the Aces last month, scored just 63 seconds into the game for his first goal in 11 games wearing a Bakersfield uniform. Willett and Jeff Goldie scored 1:26 apart midway through the first period to extend the lead to 3-0 after the opening 20 minutes. Willett and Wrobel (who finished with two goals and two assists) each beat Aces' starter Ryan Person in the second period before Yvan Corbin finally put Anchorage on the board with his 26th goal of the year with 4:29 remaining in the middle frame. Corbin scored in all four games against Bakersfield over the last six nights.

Goldie and Willett again found the range in the third period as the Condors enjoyed a 7-1 bulge in front of goaltender Kevin St. Pierre, who departed with 8:45 left in the game safe in the knowledge that he had beaten the Aces for only the second time in eight starts. Tim Donnelly beat rookie Beau Fritz with a slapshot from the right point for his first goal the year at 14:14 of the final period, accounting for the game's final margin. Bakersfield scored three times on the power play while Anchorage failed to convert any of its eight chances while being outshot 33-26.

The Aces (12-33-2) hit the road for six games in 12 days over four different cities, beginning Friday night in Fresno at 6:30 p.m. AST and Saturday in Long Beach at 6:00 p.m. AST. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
