The Mississippi Sea Wolves got 2 goals and 2 assists from Steffon Walby and 2 goals and an assist from Kent Davyduke to defeat the Arkansas RiverBlades 6-5 Thursday at Alltel Arena, ending Arkansas' unbeaten streak at 12 games.
Buddy Smith racked up three assists in the loss for the Blades, who got goals from 5 different players. Damon Whitten added a goal and an assist for Arkansas, and Dean Stock and Matt Pagnutti each had 2 assists in defeat.
Damon Whitten kicked off the scoring at 6:03 of the first, notching his 6th of the year from Mike Sandbeck and Dean Stock.
Then, at 8:42, Kent Davyduke tied it for the Sea Wolves on the power-play, scoring his 13th from Mike Scott.
However, just under a minute later, Sherwood ECHL Player of the Month Jason Bermingham ripped the twine for Arkansas, tallying his 27th goal of the year from Dean Stock and Buddy Smith on the power-play.
Mississippi came right back at 16:20, as Steffon Walby got his 27th of the season short-handed from Chris Cava.
In the second, Mike Renzi gave Arkansas an early 3-2 advantage, scoring his 5th as a RiverBlade at 2:28, assisted by Buddy Smith and Matt Pagnutti. Mississippi knotted it up again at 3-3 at 4:42, as former RiverBlade Darryl Campbell got a shorthanded tally.
Eric Long then lit the lamp at 5:51 with his 9th of the year, set up by Matt Pagnutti and Buddy Smith to make it a 4-3 Arkansas advantage.
However, the Sea Wolves would come back again, as Steffon Walby got his second of the game and 28th of the year on the power-play from Austin Miller and Kent Davyduke to tie the game 4-4. Then, in the last minute of the period, Dean Stork fired a wicked wrist shot past goaltender Sean Matile for his career-high 10th goal of the season to give the RiverBlades a 5-4 lead through two periods. Terry Marchant and Damon Whitten got helpers on the play.
In the third, Mississippi scored two unanswered goals from Kent Davyduke and Dave Paradise to claim the victory.
Mississippi outshot Arkansas 38-27 for the game, and were 3-for-9 on the power-play. The RiverBlades were 2-for-8 on the man advantage. The RiverBlades return to action tomorrow at the Alltel Arena, hosting the Peoria Rivermen at 7:05 p.m. Fans can print out the coupon below and get $2 off your ticket at the box office.
