Last week, the Wheeling Nailers continued their red hot month of November, improving to 5-0-1 over the last six games, and 7-2-2 since a 5-3 win over Greenville on November 2nd. Despite dropping the first game of the week, 3-2 in a shootout against Reading, the Nailers were able to bounce back with a 5-4 overtime win in Fort Wayne and a 4-2 win in Cincinnati. Wheeling now owns a 4-3-2 record on the road - its first winning road record since the end of the 2011-12 season.
On Wednesday night, the Nailers got out to a 2-0 lead in the second period, thanks to Matt Grassi's first professional goal, as well as a tally by Zack Torquato. However, the Royals battled back, tying the game in the third period, before finding the twine on two of three shootout attempts, while Wheeling's shooters went 0-for-4. On Saturday night, the Nailers flipped the script around, as they fell behind the Komets 3-0 in the first 29 minutes of action. By the early stages of the third period, that deficit got erased, as Max MacKay, Mike Ratchuk, and Anton Zlobin knotted the score at three. Fort Wayne retook the lead with 5:55 remaining, but with 32 seconds left in regulation, Carter Rowney forced overtime with his team-leading sixth goal of the season. With 18 ticks left in the extra session, Ratchuk put the exclamation point on a four-point night, lifting Wheeling to a 5-4 triumph. On Sunday afternoon, Wheeling blasted out to a quick 2-0 advantage on goals by Zlobin and Torquato, and this time, there were no lead exchanges, as Torquato and Scott Zurevinski completed the 4-2 victory for the visitors. Mike Condon was the goaltender in all three games for the Nailers, improving his season record to 6-3-1, as he stopped 94 of 102 shots.

This coming week, the Wheeling Nailers will conclude their five-game road trip, while beginning a stretch of nine consecutive games at WesBanco Arena. On Wednesday, Wheeling returns to Cincinnati, where it won on Sunday, for the first time since February 4th, 2011. The Nailers will have an opportunity to tie the Cyclones in the Eastern Conference Standings with a win. On Friday, the team travels to Elmira for the fifth head-to-head meeting with the Jackals. Wheeling has won all four games thus far, including a November 15th trip to New York, which featured a hat trick by Chaz Johnson. On Saturday, the Nailers return home for their second clash of the season with the Toledo Walleye. Two goals in the third period gave the Walleye a 2-0 win on October 26th, but Toledo has won just three of ten games since. Finally, on Sunday, the Nailers and Cyclones will meet for the third time in eight days, with the first of six head-to-head contests in Wheeling.
