Komets Collect Three Points for Week 6; Everblades Visit for Thanksgiving Weekend Games

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets earned three points for the week 6 after posting a 1-1-1 record in the three games played. The Komets improved to 6-5-3 and 15 points and enter the 7th week of 2013-14 trailing first place Cincinnati by five points in the North Division after 14 games.

Friday the Komets were doubled-up by the visiting Reading Royals 4-2, snapping a three-game Fort Wayne win string. Reading also scored a power play tally in the game, breaking a Komet streak of 12 straight successful penalty kills. Saturday the Komets earned a point after falling to the Wheeling Nailers at the Coliseum in overtime 5-4. Sunday the Komets clipped the IceMen at Evansville 5-4 to complete the week and snap a brief two-game winless skid.

Streaking Komets -- Mickey Lang (C) had points in each game of the week to push his point streak to six games (5 goals, 4 assists) and leads the Komets and the ECHL (tied with Florida's Matthew Pistilli) with 12 goals while becoming the fourth skater in the league to reach 20 points this season.....forward Mike Vaskivuo also had points in each game to push his point streak to five games (2 goals, 7 assists).

Komet firsts -- Defenseman Rob Kwiet's first goal of the season was Sunday's game winner at Evansville.....Saturday Nick Tuzzolino (D) scored his first goals of the year.

Leaders of the week -- Lang led the Komets with four goals and added an assist for a five-point week....Vaskivuo also led with five points dishing four assists and adding a marker.

Komet leaders -- Lang leads with 12 goals, 20 points....Brandon Marino (RW) leads with 12 assists.....William Lacasse (d) leads with +7 and Kaleigh Schrock (RW) leads with 58 penalty minutes.

The week ahead -- The Komets will host their 53rd Thanksgiving night game when Florida visits for a 7:30pm holiday start Thursday. The Komets are 33-15-4 all-time at home on Thanksgiving. The Komets have celebrated Thanksgiving with victories the last five straight years. The holiday weekend continues Friday when the Komets travel to Kalamazoo for the first meeting of the season against the Wings at 7:30pm. Saturday the Komets return home for a rematch against Florida at 7:30pm, completing the November slate.

Sound Off with the Komets Monday Nights on 21Alive -- The Komets, 21Alive and title sponsor PHP present Sound Off with the Komets, a live weekly televised sports program each Monday night during the Komet season at 7:30pm on WPTA TV 21Alive. The half-hour show will be televised from Champions Bar and Restaurant in downtown Fort Wayne and will feature highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts with 21Alive's Tommy Schoegler.

ECHL Fantasy Team -- ECHL fans can log on to ECHL-dot-com to vote for their favorite players to help select the 2013-14 ECHL Fantasy Team, presented by The MeiGray Group and U-S-A Hockey. Fort Wayne fans can vote for their favorite Komet player and their other favorite players around the league. The top vote-getter on each team will wear a team jersey with a special American flag-themed front crest during the designated dates leading up to the 2014 Winter Olympics. KOMETS ON ICE THIS WEEK--

- Thursday, Nov. 28, Florida Everblades (11-4-2, 24 points) at Komets (6-5-3, 15 points), 7:30pm -- The Komets begin the three-game weekend with the traditional home Thanksgiving game Thursday night. The Florida Everblades make their first of four visits. It's the first of seven meetings overall this year. The Komets are looking for their first ever win against the Everblades after an 0-2-0 record in two meetings last season, both meetings on Fort Wayne ice. The Everblades finished last week with a 6-0 shellacking of Orlando on Florida ice Saturday night and are 3-2-0 in their last five and 3-4-1 in their last eight games. Florida is battling South Carolina for first place int the South Division, trailing by one point entering week 7. Florida skates at Kalamazoo Wednesday before traveling to Fort Wayne for Thanksgiving.

- Friday, Nov. 29, Komets at Kalamazoo Wings (6-5-1, 13 points), 7:30pm -- The Komets will meet their old rivals from Kalamazoo at Wings stadium Friday for the first of 14 clashes this season. It's the first of six trips to Kalamazoo. The Wings trail the third-place Komets in the North Division by two points entering the week's play and are 4-1-0 in their last five outings. Last season the Komets were 8-7-1 overall in 16 meetings against the Wings. Kalamazoo will host Florida Wednesday and will have the Thanksgiving day holiday off before hosting the Komets Friday night.

- Saturday, Nov. 30, Florida Everblades at Komets, 7:30pm -- The Komets and Everblades skate a rematch Saturday after meeting Thanksgiving night. It's the second of four meetings at the Coliseum this season. The Komets also skate at Florida Feb. 21 and 22 when they make their first ever trip to Florida. Saturday's Komet home game is the fifth of 11 Saturday Fort Wayne home games this season.
