Previewing the Upcoming Week:
11/27 at Reading - 7:05 p.m., Home vs. REA 0-1-0, Away vs. REA 1-1-0
Even though the Reading Royals show up more times on Elmira's schedule (16) more than any other team this year, the Atlantic Division rivals haven't met since a November 2 date at Santander Arena. That night the Royals grabbed a 5-2 win on the strength of a 3-for-8 effort on the power play. That game still stands as the game in which Elmira has been shorthanded most this season. The Royals enter this week leading the Atlantic Division with a 9-5-0 record, but they are just 4-3-0 at home. The Jackals look to improve on their 2-6-0 road record in the building where they won their first road game of the year. Elmira's first win of the season was a 3-1 triumph in Reading on October 26.
11/29 vs. Wheeling - 7:05 p.m., Home vs. WHL 0-1-0, Away vs. WHL 0-3-0
Elmira has yet to beat Wheeling in four tries this year, but will look to buck that trend at home this Friday. Despite the lopsided win-loss record the Jackals have played the Nailers extremely close this year. Three of the four games have been decided by one goal and Wheeling's average margin of victory over the Jackals is just 1.75. The Jackals' focus will be improving its offensive output against the Nailers. Elmira has scored two goals or less in three of the prior four meetings with the Nailers, but did break out for four goals in Wheeling when the teams last met on November 16. The Nailers enter play this week as the hottest team in the ECHL with a six-game standings point streak (5-0-1).
11/30 vs. Cincinnati - 7:05 p.m., Home vs. CIN 0-0-0, Away vs. CIN 0-0-0
Saturday night will kick off the seven-game season series between the Jackals and Cyclones. The schedule is lopsided with two of the seven games at First Arena and the other five at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. The Jackals were 1-1-0 at home (3-1-0 overall) against Cincinnati last year and hold a 10-4-3 home record all time against the Cyclones. Cincinnati's 3-2 win in Elmira on October 26 last year was its first regulation win in Elmira since a 5-1 victory on February 16, 2008. The Cyclones are the North Division's top team with a 10-5-0 record and their 5-2-0 mark away from home is tied with Reading for the second best road record in the Eastern Conference.

Recapping Last Week:
11/22 vs. Kalamazoo: SOL 5-6
An offensive explosion by the Jackals and Wings led to a back-and-forth battle last Friday that produced a dramatic end to regulation and an eventual shootout win for the Wings. After falling in a 2-0 hole the Jackals rattled off three straight to grab a 3-2 lead late in the second period. Kalamazoo answered back with a pair of its own to claim a one-goal lead, but Artem Demkov and Jakub Culek answered back to put Elmira ahead by one with 1:50 to play. The Wings had one last gasp, though, and Yanni Gourde slipped home the tying goal with .5 seconds left on the clock. After a scoreless overtime the Wings won the breakaway competition two goals to none.
11/23 vs. Kalamazoo: L 0-2
The theme for Saturday's game switched from dueling offenses to dueling goaltenders as Scott Greenham and Joel Martin took center stage. Martin (15 saves, W) was tested less often than Greenham (24 saves, L), but had to make one particularly special stop to preserve his team's lead. Midway through the third, with the Wings up 1-0, Artem Demkov was set up alone on the doorstep while the Jackals worked on a power play. Martin dove back with his stick to get a piece of Demkov's one-timer to keep Elmira off the board, and Kalamazoo added an insurance marker shortly after.
11/24 vs. Kalamazoo: W 2-1
Elmira was able to break its five-game losing streak behind 30 saves from Scott Greenham and third period goals from Jakub Culek and Kyle Bushee. Kalamazoo had a 1-0 lead through two periods thanks to Ludwig Blomstrand's first period goal. But Greenham shut the Wings down the rest of the way and Elmira pulled off the comeback win. Jackals captain Jean Bourbeau assisted on both third period goals for his second two point effort of the week.
Quick Hits:
* With two assists on November 22 Jackals captain Jean Bourbeau broke a ten game point drought. He also added a pair of assists in Elmira's win on November 24 and now ranks fourth on the team with four assists and eighth with five points (1 goal, 4 assists). That stretch of games was the longest without a point Bourbeau had endured since joining the Jackals in 2011.
* Jakub Culek has been on a tear since scoring his first pro goal on November 15 vs. Wheeling. He is averaging a point per game over his last five contests (3 goals, 2 assists), and has a +2 rating. He is the Jackals' top rookie scorer overall with seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in nine games. He ranks 26th among all ECHL rookies in scoring entering this week.
* This week's set of three games in four days concludes Elmira's busiest month of the season (14 games in 30 days during November). At the conclusion of Saturday's game the Jackals will be one game shy of having completed a quarter of their 2013-14 schedule. By contrast, the Jackals will play just 11 games over 31 days in December. Only the Wheeling Nailers play more games this month (15) than the Jackals.
* Jackals goalie Scott Greenham has been a dominant force on First Arena ice this season. His 30-save win on Sunday over Kalamazoo improved his home record to 2-2-0 but that doesn't tell the whole story. He has allowed two goals or fewer in three of his four home starts including a 31-save shutout of Greenville on November 2. His home goals-against average is a sparkling 2.01, and his .942 save percentage is equally impressive.
