Last week, the Wheeling Nailers played three consecutive games against the Elmira Jackals, and came out victorious in all three, winning by scores of 1-0 on Thursday, 5-1 on Friday, and 5-4 on Saturday. Wheeling is currently enjoying its first three-game winning streak of the season, and has now taken down the Jackals in each of the first four head-to-head meetings in the 15-game season series.

On Thursday night, the story was goaltender Eric Hartzell, who earned his first professional win and shutout, stopping all 37 shots he faced. Hartzell's goal support that night came from fellow rookie Sahir Gill, who potted his first pro goal at the 13:37 mark of the second period. On Friday night, veteran forward Chaz Johnson returned to his former stomping grounds in Elmira, and proceeded to put on a show, scoring his first three goals as a Nailer for his fourth career hat trick. Gill and Cody Sylvester also lit the lamp, while Anton Zlobin chipped in with three assists in his Wheeling debut, as the visiting Nailers scored four times during the second period. Mike Condon made 39 saves on 40 shots for his fourth win of the campaign. In Saturday's series finale, both teams got started early, as the teams were tied at two after twenty minutes of play. The seesaw battle lasted until 2:23 remained in regulation, when Mike Ratchuk's first marker of the season propelled Wheeling to the 5-4 win, thus completing the three-game sweep.

This Week

Wed. 11/20 WHEELING NAILERS @ Reading Royals, 7:05

Sat. 11/23 WHEELING NAILERS @ Fort Wayne Komets, 7:35

Sun. 11/24 WHEELING NAILERS @ Cincinnati Cyclones, 3:00

This coming week, the Wheeling Nailers will begin a stretch of five straight games on enemy ice, beginning with tilts on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Wednesday, Wheeling will look to get revenge on the Reading Royals, who have been victorious in the first three games of the season series, winning by scores of 6-2, 2-0, and 2-1. A regulation win would also give the Nailers sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division. On Saturday, the Nailers will visit the Fort Wayne Komets for the second time this month, after crushing the Komets, 6-2 on November 8th. Finally, Wheeling will play the first of back-to-back games against the North Division leading Cincinnati Cyclones on Sunday afternoon. The Cyclones picked up a 4-2 win over the Nailers in their season opener on October 19th.
