Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, N.Y. - November 19, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they are teaming up with Southern Tier Tobacco Awareness Community Partnership (STTAC) for a special promotion, that will take place at their home game this Friday, November 22, in conjunction with the 38th annual Great American Smokeout.

The Great American Smokeout is a holiday held by the American Cancer Society to encourage smokers across the nation to give up their tobacco use. In honor of the Great American Smokeout the Jackals and STTAC are offering $2 off of a regularly priced ticket to the Jackals game on Friday, November 22 versus Kalamazoo to anyone who throws away at least a half pack of cigarettes or a half of a tin of chewing tobacco. The offer is valid only for tickets purchased at the First Arena Box Office on Friday, November 22 and cannot be combined with any other offer. The discount is limited to one per patron.

In a show of support, four Jackals player have pledged to give up tobacco for the entire month of November. The tobacco-free MVPs are Kyle Bushee, Brandon Blandina, Zach McCullough, and Jean Bourbeau.

Join the Jackals and STTAC this Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 to celebrate the Great American Smokeout.

"STTAC is so excited to be working with the Elmira Jackals, as many youth in the area look up to the hockey players. Our four tobacco-free MVPs serve as role models to keep kids from starting to smoke or chew. Currently, 90 percent of smokers begin by the age of 18, so efforts to help smokers quit and keep kids from beginning will have a major impact on the health of residents in Chemung, Steuben and Schuyler counties now and in the future," said Lorelei Wagner, STTAC Field Specialist. "We hope tobacco users take advantage of all the resources available for the Great American Smokeout and give quitting a chance."

STTAC will also have a table on the First Arena concourse at Friday's game to provide more information to fans who are interested in quitting smoking or chewing tobacco.
